Students of the College of Law visited the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau on April 28 as part of the study course “System of Law Enforcement Institutions.”

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau is the leading anti-corruption agency in Latvia. The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau is a direct administration body that performs the functions prescribed in the Law on Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau, in the field of the prevention and combating of corruption. The Bureau also supervises compliance with the rules for financing political organisations (parties) and their associations, and monitors how the restrictions set for pre-election campaigns, pre-referendum campaigns, law proposal campaigns, and campaigns for initiating the dissolution of the Parliament are complied with.

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau is under the supervision of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Cabinet of Ministers exercises institutional oversight through the Prime Minister. In its activities, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau observes the rights and obligations established in the Law on Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau and other laws and regulations.

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau began its activities in 10 October 2002, when the Parliament appointed the first head of the Bureau.
