„Blue Intelligence” – ERASMUS+ programme in Bulgaria

September 03, 2026

This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in an ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programme for students in Bulgaria. Burgas Free University organised this event around the theme of „Blue Intelligence: Integrating Ocean Literacy with IoT and AI for Sustainable Futures.” The programme actually began before our departure, with three online meetings. At first, the topic of ocean literacy, IoT, and artificial intelligence seemed rather distant from my field of study, as I am studying Real Estate Management and Administration at the College of Law. However, in Burgas, I realised that the knowledge I gained could also be useful in the field of real estate management.

During this training week, we became familiar with the open data portals Copernicus, EMODnet, and NOAA; analysed and visualised real data; used artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to make predictions; and worked practically with IoT sensors. We built a simple environmental sensor ourselves, collected data, and viewed it on a cloud-based dashboard. Most importantly, I realised that these technologies could also be applied in my future work—for monitoring building temperature, humidity, and energy consumption, as well as for data analysis, visualisation, and maintenance planning. This experience allowed me to look at real estate management from a modern and technological perspective.
